Utilitarian

When military inspired pieces graced the runways of Zadig & Voltaire, Isabel Marant, Marc by Marc Jacobs and more, it was no surprise. Each year utilitarian cool crops up, each time revved up and rediscovered. This season calls for city ready, slick style in the format of dynamic cuts, khaki greens and boxy accessories with metallic hardwear.

As a huge fan of structured blouses, chunky boots and the ever iconic trench coat, its safe to say I’ve already got a few pieces that can be pulled on for my interpretation of this trend. However, there’s nothing wrong with a little coveting…

I’m too short to get away with it, but this wool blend coat is to die for. Modern, clean cut collar and trench inspired style, all complete in one navy tie-waisted loveliness. I think everyone deserves to have at least one classic coat that manages to hint at a trend but is still timeless. This definitely falls into that category.Green blouse – natch. Okay, okay I know it’s no surprises to find a bottle green shirt in a military inspired line-up, but this one is slightly different. Silk. Concealed buttons. This season, we’re looking for slick inspired pieces. Therefore, there’s no need for the large buttons or faux epualets of years past, this year military inspired blouses are sleek and nonchalantly worn with leather pants and a bloody good leather bag.

These raw-edge suede trousers are undeniably chic. However, its the raw quality about them that beings to mind the rugged textures we saw on the catwalks. Cropped, best worn with stilettos, but still oozing an unpolished and weather beaten vibe.

The three pieces are a great way to add a touch of military chic to the wardrobe this season. So tell me, what trends are proving an inspiration for you this season?
