Unfortunately after a slight change in direction of my career path, when LFW is going on, I’m no longer admiring the trends from the catwalks, writing about shows or coming up with edits to inspire people to buy. Instead I spent my LFW cramming show viewing on Youtube before and after work, reading show and trend reports on the train there and back. Whilst I’m much happier in my new job, the LFW madness is now experienced completely differently, and its hard not to miss the excitement of being amongst all the action.
Whilst I’m not seeing the SS15 trends first hand, my mind recently has definitely been on the trends for AW14. This week I’m collating some pieces that could do with appearing in my closet promptly (please, clothes fairies).
One of the saddest things about summer coming to an end is the banishing of the lilacs, mint greens, soft lemons to the back of the closet. That’s why when Chloe, Christopher Kane, Valentino and more featured sugary hues with an up-to-date injection of clean lines and tailored shapes my heart did a little sigh of happiness.
However, we’re not talking about the loose, floaty pieces that keep us looking sweet and chic in the summer. Oh no, this season we’re looking at these sugary shades through a much more grown-up lens.
This season, think lace blazers and structured midi skirts in scuba fabric or ponte. Instead of adding pastel power into our ensembles with drop armhole vests and dainty accessories, we’re looking at wrapping up in dusky pink dolly coats, and option for tailored shorts in soft tones like these Metallic Pastel Shorts.
If you’re brave, there’s always the all-over pastel explosion that can be found in co-ords and chic suits, like this matching faded floral jacquard blazer and trouser set or a curve-worthy wiggle dress like this beauty.
Or, if like me you like to keep it simple with individual pieces that work well all year round, there ia always this Whistles Oversized Ella Blouse, Carnation Blazer and Scuba Poppy Print Top for the office. Personally, this Narda tee is typical of the kind of items my wardrobe needs at the moment – subtle, versatile and comfortable.
